Components of a Modern Science Text
 
 Modern introductory college science textbooks have evolved to a complex learning tools that employ numerous color photographs and line drawings. At least in the Earth sciences, they employ sidebars, boxes and interludes to relate human experience to geologic principles.
 
 
 
Today textbooks are commonly accompanied by CD-roms that contain different types of multimedia and often are often supported by dedicated Web sites. Unfortunately, the integration of these offerings is often less than optimal.
